Understanding System Permissions

System Permissions control which CMS tools and plugin areas a user can access, and what the user can do inside those areas.

The controls you see depend on your CMS permissions. Users with restricted permissions may not be able to access all features.

Open a user's System Permissions tab to review or change system-level access.

The System Permissions tab groups CMS access into Plug-Ins, System, and Content.

System Permissions are organized into three expandable groups:

• Plug-Ins
• System
• Content

The Plug-Ins group controls access to plugin tools such as Blog, Calendar, Photo Gallery, Form Builder, News Press, Slideshow, and Alerts Manager.

The System group controls access to system tools:

• User Manager
• Menu Manager
• Redirects Manager

The Content group controls access to content-related tools and actions such as Change Log, File & Folder, Publish, and Recycle.

Each group can be expanded to show the individual tools or resources inside that group. Permissions can be set at the group level using global toggles and adjusted for individual items inside the group.

Individual tool or resource settings cannot exceed the group-level settings. For example, if Add is off for the System group, Add cannot be enabled for an individual system tool inside that group.

Permission Levels

• View: allows the user to see the tool or resource.
• Edit: allows the user to change existing records in that tool or resource.
• Add: allows the user to create new records in that tool or resource.
• Delete: allows the user to remove records from that tool or resource.

Higher permission levels always build on lower permission levels. For example, a user who can add records also needs the access required to view and edit with the relevant tool.
