Understanding Menu Title, Page Title, Template, and Permalink

The Menu Manager detail view uses four core fields to identify and display a page: Menu Title, Page Title, Template, and Permalink.

Menu Title

Menu Title is required. It controls the name displayed in site navigation.

Page Title

Page Title controls the visible page heading when provided. If Page Title is left blank, the page uses the Menu Title as the visible heading.

Template

Template controls how the page content is displayed. New pages use the site's default template unless you choose a different option.

Changing the Template does not change the page's Permalink, but it can change how the page content is presented.

Permalink

Permalink is the page address. For a new page, the system generates the Permalink from the Menu Title.

Before a new page is saved, review the generated Permalink. After the page is created, the Permalink is no longer editable from the Menu Manager detail view.

The structure of the Permalink must follow certain rules:

  • The first character must be a lowercase letter.
  • Only letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores are allowed.
  • The Permalink cannot be changed once created.
