Restoring and Permanently Deleting Recycled Items

The Recycle tool lets authorized CMS users restore deleted content blocks or permanently remove recycled records. Restore returns an eligible item to its original page. Permanent delete removes the item from the Recycle tool and cannot be undone.

Restore a Recycled Item

Use Restore from a List View row action or from the Detail View header to return a recycled item to its original page.

Restore button

When an item is restored, it is added to the bottom of its original page by default. The system does not try to return the block to its original position on the page.

Restore Eligibility

Restore is available only when the original page and required placement context still exist and the user has restore permission.

Restore is disabled when the original page no longer exists, the original page association cannot be identified, the required placement context cannot be found, or the user does not have restore permission. The user is not prompted to choose a new destination page when the original page no longer exists.

What Restore Preserves

A restored item keeps its original block type, stored content, start date, end date, creation date, and created-by metadata. After restoration, the item is removed from the Recycle tool, and the deleted date and deleted-by values are removed from the active content record.

Bulk Restore

Use Bulk Actions in the List View to restore multiple eligible recycled items. Select the rows you want to restore, choose Restore, and confirm the action.

Rows that cannot be restored show disabled selection controls and cannot be included in bulk restore. If one or more selected items become ineligible before the restore completes, those items are skipped and the system displays a message explaining that some items could not be restored.

Deleting a Recycled Item

Permanently Delete a Recycled Item

Use Delete from a List View row action or from the Detail View header to permanently remove a recycled item.

Delete button

Permanent delete removes the recycled record and any stored source or recoverable data needed for future restoration. This action cannot be reversed.

Bulk Delete

Use Bulk Actions in the List View to permanently delete multiple selected recycled items. Like individual delete, bulk delete requires confirmation and is not reversible.

Rows with disabled selection controls cannot be included in bulk actions. Even when a row is not eligible for bulk actions, it may still display individual row actions depending on permissions and block-type behavior.

Permissions

Users with view permission can review recycled items and use Preview or Copy Source when those actions are available. Users need restore permission to restore items. Users need delete permission to permanently delete items or use bulk delete.
