Adding Tables and Other Inserted Elements

The Content Editor includes insert tools for tables, horizontal lines, special characters, and page breaks. Use these tools when the content needs structure that plain paragraphs and lists cannot provide.

Tool Button Use
Table Table icon Inserts a table for row-and-column data.
Horizontal Line Horizontal Line icon Adds a visual divider between content sections.
Special Character Special Character icon Inserts symbols and characters that are not easy to type.
Page Break Page Break icon Adds a print-specific page break.

Adding a Table

Click the Table icon to open the Table Properties dialog.

Use tables for information that needs rows and columns. Avoid using tables only to create visual page layout.

Common table settings include:

  • Rows: sets the number of table rows.
  • Columns: sets the number of table columns.
  • Width: sets the table width.
  • Height: sets the table height.
  • Headers: defines whether the table uses row, column, or both row and column headers.
  • Border Size: controls border thickness.
  • Cell Spacing: controls space between cells.
  • Cell Padding: controls space inside cells.
  • Alignment: controls table alignment.
  • Caption: adds a visible table caption.
  • Summary: provides additional table context when needed.

Use table headers whenever they help identify the meaning of the row or column. Headers improve readability and accessibility.

Advanced Table Settings

The Advanced tab includes options such as ID, language direction, inline style, and stylesheet classes.

Use advanced settings only when the table needs a specific technical or design treatment.

Styling Tables After Insertion

After a table is inserted, select it in the editor and open Mobi Workspace. The Styles view can provide table-specific options such as base style, striping, hover behavior, borders, compact sizing, spacing, and border treatments.

Use Styles for visual table treatments instead of manually editing advanced classes or inline styles whenever possible. This keeps tables consistent with the site's design system.

Horizontal Lines

Use Insert Horizontal Line to add a visual divider between sections of content.

Use horizontal lines sparingly. Headings are usually better for organizing page content.

Special Characters

Use Insert Special Character to add characters that are not easy to type from the keyboard, such as symbols or accented characters.

Page Breaks

Use Insert Page Break for Printing to add a print-specific page break. This affects printed output and is most useful for long content that visitors may print.
